Ukraine

GROUP C

Ranked number 24 in the FIFA world rankings, Ukraine have a real shot at taking second place and escaping the group stage automatically. They haven’t lost a match since their Nations League competition when Germany defeated them for the second time in the group stage, with a score of 3-1. Their very next game, Ukraine was forced to forfeit to Switzerland due to a COVID-19 outbreak in their team. Since then, they’ve drawn all four of their subsequent games with 1-1 draws, three of those games coming in World Cup Qualifying.

STAR PLAYER

West Ham United forward Andriy Yarmolenko is Ukraine’s golden boy and a lot will be riding on his shoulders to produce the goods in the Euros. A really skillful, tricky winger known for his impressive dribbling ability & deft finishing, Yarmolenko can be unplayable on his day.

Despite having an under-par season with West Ham – scoring just 3 goals & registering 5 assists in 24 appearances (across all competitions) – Yarmolenko has an impressive record with Ukraine. He’s scored 38 & assisted 21 goals in 93 appearances for them in his career and is determined to continue his impressive record by scoring some majestic goals & taking them far into the knockout rounds.

ACHIVEMENT

Quarter Finals (1996, 2008)

This is just their third European Championship appearance for Ukraine. Previously Ukraine have managed to pass the qualification round of the competition in 2012 and 2016. However they have yet to advance beyond the group stage.
